Data Analyst

Data Analyst — Coventry City Council

(Oct 2019 – Dec 2021)

My first proper data role, straight out of university. Coventry is where I built the foundations — SQL, Power BI, stakeholder management, and figuring out how to make data actually useful to people who aren't analysts.

  • Used SQL to query the data warehouse and answer 100+ Freedom of Information requests — a good forcing function for writing clean, accurate queries under pressure.

  • Automated a data entry task that was taking 2 hours a week down to 5 minutes using Power Query. Small win, but an early lesson in the value of automation.

  • Rebuilt SSRS reports in Power BI and became the team's go-to for anything dashboard-related. Getting senior managers to see the value in interactive reporting was a genuine challenge — and a rewarding one.

  • Project managed the annual adult social care survey, capturing insight from 1,200 service users across Coventry.

Not the most glamorous data work, but it was formative. It gave me a solid grounding in the fundamentals and a clear sense of what I wanted to move towards.
