First serious attempt at producing a SaaS tool

My first serious attempt at building a SaaS product. The idea came from personal frustration with existing tools. I needed a system that worked this way, couldn't find one, and figured that was worth paying attention to.

Before writing a line of code, I wanted to test whether anyone else actually cared. So I ran a proper validation process:

  • Designed screens and mockups in Figma, along with a brand identity

  • Built a landing page in Webflow explaining the concept, with a waitlist signup at the end

  • Offered early access to anyone who completed a short survey

  • Posted it on Product Hunt

Within about a week, we had around 100 signups and 20 survey submissions. The survey responses were genuinely useful. They helped clarify commercial viability, what to prioritise in the build, and what assumptions needed adjusting.

Where it's at now

The product is in active development. As the originator of the idea, I'm serving as product designer and have onboarded two technical co-founders who are currently building out the Figma designs. The validation process gave us a solid foundation to build from, and a list of people already waiting to use it.

It's also been a good lesson in how to move from idea to something real without over-investing before you know people want it.
