Senior Public Health Analyst
Senior Public Health Analyst — Walsall Council
(Dec 2021 – Apr 2023)
A contract role during a period when public health data really mattered. Most of my time was spent on COVID-19 reporting, but the work had real stakes attached to it.
Owned COVID data reporting across the borough, including vaccination rates. The team's efforts contributed to the borough reaching a 72% vaccination rate — above the national average.
Saved the Public Health Intelligence team 10+ hours a week by automating COVID KPI updates, freeing them up for work that actually needed their attention.
Presented weekly data updates to 15+ senior managers, SMEs and non-technical stakeholders — this sharpened my ability to communicate clearly to people who don't live in spreadsheets.
Analysed the effect of social media campaigns on vaccine uptake by combining Facebook and government data, which helped target outreach more effectively across different population segments.
Built ad hoc Power BI dashboards across several Public Health areas including schooling, crime, and social care — adapting quickly to new datasets and topics as they came up.
The role taught me a lot about working at pace with sensitive date, and reinforced how much impact clear data communication can have.
